Tattoos Over 40 Oct 31st 2011, 10:22 I am a 48 year old woman who was always interested in getting a tattoo, but never had the nerve or knew what I wanted to get permanently inked on my body. Well, having a teenager daughter gave me the "inspiration" for my very first one at the ripe old age of 45! A very simple tribal sun on my left shoulder blade and I was hooked! My artist, Rich, said to me during our very first session, "You'll be back. I can tell!" Needless to say, he was right! We have just completed the 1st part of my leg "sleeve". This portion consists of beautiful, colorful calla lilies and splashes of water incorporated around 2 existing kanji characters Rich had already done on the outside of my leg. The next section will include a red cardinal. Haven't yet decided whether it will be in flight or resting atop a tree branch. This is also my first color piece. I am a big fan of black and gray, but I do love my colorful flowers!! I enjoy everything about the tattoo process. I have been told by my artist that no other clients of his are as curious or ask as many questions as I do each and every time we have a session. I enjoy watching him set up for our sessions, prep his tattoo machine and mix his inks, etc, etc, etc!! I think I am becoming a tattoo "groupie"!

Clavicle Piercings Oct 22nd 2011, 10:18 Definition: Clavicle piercings are named after their anatomical location, but are also often referred to as a Madison. A Madison is a surface piercing that, while attractive, is often temporary because it comes with a very high chance of rejection. The name comes from the first well-known person to wear this piercing - adult film starlet, Madison Stone(who now owns her own tattoo shop in California). It's positioned right above the sternum in the area known as the "jugular notch." I'm not sure why clavicle piercings have such a high rejection rate; maybe it's because of the body's natural movement in this area and/or the flexibility of the skin. For whatever reason, very few of them ever heal completely. Even Madison Stone herself lost the piercing many years ago, and hasn't bothered to have it pierced again. A "true" Madison is horizontal, adorned with a small curved barbell, surface bar, CBR, or circular barbell. However, anything but a surface bar puts more tension on the ends of the fistula, giving it an even greater chance at rejection. Directional variations, such as a vertical Madison, can also be done and may actually reduce the odds of rejection, especially if it's pierced by an experienced surface piercing artist and uses a surface bar for jewelry. If you want the best odds at not losing your Madison, that's what I'd recommend. Healing time for this particular piercing can take months, or it may never heal at all. Pay close attention to your aftercare instructions and cross your fingers. Do not hang anything from your piercing; not even small charms. If you're one of the lucky few, you might get to keep your Madison for many years. If not, at least you can enjoy it for a while. Also Known As: Madison, Jugular Notch Piercing
