Reader Question: Covering Up a 'J' Initial Tattoo
Jul 16th 2012, 03:11

I need some ideas to mask a 6" j-shaped scar from a hip replacement.

Hello, I hope your hip replacement surgery went well and I have a few ideas for your tattoo cover-up.

First I suggest you find an artist that's comfortable working with your tattoo. Without knowing your interests and believing that to be the most important aspect of a meaningful tattoo, I can only make suggestions based on the space and size and required black space to cover-up an initial or name tattoo.

I suggest an Old School gypsy girl who's hair could naturally follow the curvature of the initial. Men and women can both bear the beauty of the gypsy, especially if you have a liking for travel or a wandering and free spirit.

Another option is a mechanical tattoo that goes to work with moving joints and gears right on your hip.

A third option could be something a little darker or whimsical such as a hot air balloon with a parachute. Imagine this in bold color and just get creative and add something fantastical to it.

Lastly, you could reveal the skeleton below and opt for a classic black and grey tattoo.

I hope this helps. J is such a fabulous letter there's plenty to do with it!
