The U.S. Army has taken tattoo restrictions to new heights. Under the soon to be signed update to Army Regulation 670-1, tattoos are prohibited below the elbows and knees in addition to the already banned head, face and neck locations. Further, any tattoos with a racist, indecent or sexist undertone may have to be removed, all at the soldier's expense. Tattoos that met this criteria prior to the ban *may* be grandfathered in. This information has been confirmed by Raymond Chandler, Sgt. Maj. of the Army, and the changes are planned to take effect in as little as 30 days.
